Margaret Primus Obituary

Margaret had an appreciation for life, a brilliant mind, great strength, a strong determination an a great love for people.  Most of all she was truly grounded in her faith, her love for God.  Margaret L. Primus, 88 of Hardeeville, SC was called home to be with the Lord on March 20, 2021 at Providence Health hospital in Columbia, SC surrounded by her family.  A walk-thru will be held on Sunday March 28, 2021 from 5:00 until 7:00pm at Stiney' Funeral Home.  Margaret's celebration of life will be held at St. Stephen  AME Church "Church Parking" on Monday March 29, 2021 at 11:00am, 710 Main Street in Hardeeville, SC 29927.

 

Margaret L. Bush Primus of Hardeeville, SC, age 88, passed onto her heavenly home on the first day of spring, March 20, 2021. Margaret lived a full, happy life as a true servant of the Lord Jesus Christ. She was one of the 8 children of John Wesley and Sarah Bush. After her parents’ deaths, she was adopted into the family of William and Hattie Bush where she grew up with an additional 12 siblings.  Margaret was united in marriage with William “Bo” Primus (deceased) and later united with Solomon Williams (deceased). She was known to many as a community volunteer and organizer, daycare provider, expert cook and baker and professional housekeeper. She was the community liaison for Save the Children for many years, served on the board for Head Start  and the force behind the community organizations TASC (Taxpayers Advocacy and Support Coalition) and The Network for STAAR (Serious Teens and Adults Acting Responsibly).

Margaret served as a powerful positive role model for her 5 children, William Primus, Jr. (Teki), Veronica Dale Primus, Linda Primus (deceased), Maurice Lowell “Mo’Music” Primus (Deborah) and Jada LaMar Capistrano Williams Daniel. She will be missed dearly by 11 grandchildren, 19 great-grandchildren and 2 great-great grandchildren. They were all made to feel special by her constant support. She always looked forward to a ride in the fast cars designed by her grandson, The Donkmaster aka Sage Thomas, eating ribs by grandson Matthew and laughing at the puppet shows by “The Gologosi Master, Brett.

At her home church, St. Stephen AME church in Hardeeville, pastored by Rev. Angela Johnson, Margaret served on the Pulpit/Pastor’s Aide Board and Women’s Missionary Society.  She attended The Potter’s Christian Life Center when visiting Columbia, pastored by Rev. Gregory Formey. 

Her living siblings and in-laws include, Frances Brownlee, Johnnie Mae Dopson, Addie Jones, William “Junior Boy” Bush, Jr., Johnnie Mae Castro, Claretha (Joe) Taliaferro and Patricia Drayton. Margaret leaves many adoring nieces, nephews, cousins and special friends, especially serving as a “B” mama for Carletter Williams and family and Valerie McCants and family.

The “Celebration of Life” will take place on Monday, March 29, 2021, 11:00 AM at St. Stephen AME in Hardeeville. The walk through wake will take place on Sunday, March 28, 2021  5:00 – 7:00 PM. COVID 19 protocol will be observed with everyone required to wear masks, all activities will be outside and social distancing required. The service will be live streamed on the FaceBook page of Stiney’s Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to a college scholarship fund established by The Network for STAAR.
